The Global Coaching Convention met in Dublin in 2008 and Cape Town in 2011 to share ideas on the future of coaching. That cooperative dialogue spread valuable practice across the world. At the time the late David Gray made a promise to return to South Africa and continue the rich and diverse connection with fellow coaches. Sadly, he cannot be here, but his colleagues, Lise Lewis and David Lane, remember the promise and wonder if the time is here to open a new dialogue space with South Africa and colleagues across the world.
The coaching field has moved on and dialogue, reflective practice and coaching supervision are more integrated within our work.
The Supervision for Global Change project aims to create a space for dialogue, connection, and resourcing among coaching and supervision communities worldwide. The project was inspired by a promise made by the late David Gray, and is being carried forward by Lise Lewis, David Lane, Jo Searle, Mongezi Makhalima, and Andrew Matthews. The team plans to harness the energy of the coaching and supervision communities in ongoing conversations in the virtual space.
The world is facing great challenges. To contribute to a better world, coaches, supervisors, and entities that make use of supervision can play a crucial role.
Through open dialogue and reflective practice, we hope to discover new and innovative ways to support coaches and related practices in their efforts to create a better world.

We are drawn to continuing the tradition of collaboration for a better future: making our difference count. There is no intention to make this a money-making initiative, and we believe with collective creative thinking, we might make this free to all participants.
What could provide a focal point of our engagement? A theme that connects us, stimulates our thinking and feeling, and holds us steady for a moment in the turbulence of the world?
Could this inquiry be of interest to you, to your local and global coaching communities, to a wider collaborative network of communities, organisations, associations?

We will be hosting a live virtual dialogue with an international community of coaches and coach supervisors.
Dialogue enables a community of people to come together for a common cause expressing a kaleidoscope of views and experience, holding curiosity about possibilities.
Connection invites us into the experience of relationship with ourselves, and others, through the learning partnership of supervision, extending out to understand our coaching settings and the wider world context in which we work.
We will explore the role of supervision in supporting coaching and enabling change through a dialogic process. The dialogic process of social inquiry is to share and reflect upon each other's ideas.
Important Note on Research and AI Use
As part of our ongoing commitment to learning and development, we will be conducting research during this event and the coming events this year. This research will culminate in an article contribution to the Journal of Coaching Ethics. We will be using AI tools to record the session and analyse patterns in the discussion to help us better understand key themes and improve future events. All data will be handled responsibly and anonymised where appropriate.
We look forward to connecting with you,
Lise Lewis, David Lane, Joanne Searle, Mongezi Makhalima and Andrew Matthews.
